JANUARY 2010
Jan 8 I ran 5 miles around my neighborhood’s snowy, slushy streets. Not the best run but it will do.
Jan 9 The group (Dave, Christina, Walter, Liz, Cheryl, Rich, Sue and I) gathered in Oakwood for a cold snowy 8 mile run through this prestigious suburb of Dayton.
Jan 10 Boy was this morning a cold one. At the start the temperature was -2 (no wind chill) with pretty dense freezing fog. We all ran between 6-8 miles around Yellow Springs since the bike path was covered in more than half a foot of snow and relatively impassable.
Jan 11 Another cold and snowy Monday 6 mile run around Beavercreek. This afternoon I was joined by Dave, Jeff, Rich and Andy. All in all with was a very comfortable run for the gang.
Jan 12 Evening 6 mile run in Ashtabula. Still really cold and snowy.
Jan 13 Morning 3 mile run on the treadmill (just could not face another minute day running in the cold (18 degrees) and snow. Ran 5 miles later in the afternoon around country roads near Ashtabula.
Jan 14 Morning 3 mile run on the treadmill. Not so bad running in shorts and tee shirt.
Jan 15 Morning 3 mile run on the treadmill. Evening in Akron ran 7 miles pretty hard with Carol. She seems to be getting in pretty good condition. Nice run.
Jan 16 Met gang in Oakwood. Ran 6 miles easy (really feeling yesterday’s effort). Not bad weather this morning considering it is nearly 40 degrees warmer than last week.
Jan 17 The gang met in Yellow Springs for the weekly long run. Today was again nearly 40 degrees warmer than a week earlier. Everyone ran 8 to 14 miles. Several of the group (Rich and Christina) are preparing for a spring marathon so this was the first long run with 12 weeks to go! Everyone had a good day!
Jan 18 Dave, Jeff, Andy and I met in Beavercreek for our run. Thankfully the bike path is clear of snow now and we were able to get in a good 8 mile run.
Jan 19 Ran steady 6 miles this morning before leaving for Conneaut. Felt so-so today.
Jan 20 Morning in Ashtabula. Ran 4 miles steady. Not feeling all that well. Pretty sluggish.
Jan 21 Ran 6 miles this afternoon with Rich. It was a motivation run, i.e. running in the pouring rain and in the mid 30s. Not one of the best days.
Jan 22 Small group met at Jeff’s house for a steady 8 mile run. Felt pretty good. Weather was cool and foggy but overall not too bad.
Jan 23 Group met at Walter and Liz’s in Oakwood. Today was the largest group of the winter with 16 of us running. We has some celebrities join us – Kara and Tara Storage from Beavercreek. Fresh off impressive finishes at the Houston Half Marathon last week (Kara 1:14 and Tara 1:17) each finishing in the top 20 women overall. We all ran 6-9 hilly miles around Oakwood. Weather was great with temps in the mid 40s. Nice day for a winter run!
Jan 24 Another gathering in Yellow Springs this morning. The group ran between 10 and 14 mostly on the bike path from Yellow Springs to Xenia. All in all the weather cooperated with light rain showers and temps in the upper 40s. Today we were joined by Jordan Redd, Fairborn High School stand out. He is a Greene Frog training for his outdoor track season. He and Dave ran a strong and steady 12 miler. Great job!
Jan 25 Group met in Beavercreek for an afternoon 6-8 miler. Weather not too bad (low 30s and breezy). With snow in the forecast everyday this week it might be the last time on the bike path.
Jan 26 Easy long run around the Englewood Dam.
Jan 27 Ran easy 6 miles with Rich before driving up to the lake. Weather was not too bad as the sun came out an took the chill off of the morning.
Jan 28 Today was terrible in Conneaut with strong winds and snow. The ’snow belt’ was living up to its name today. Ended up running 6 miles on the treadmill at Snap Fitness. I believe that ties my longest run on a treadmill.
Jan 29 Ran 3 miles easy in Conneaut along Lake Road. It was 1 degree and breezy. Interestingly Lake Erie was not frozen.
Jan 30 Group gathered in Oakwood this morning for a solid 8 mile run. The group (Dave, Christina, Kimber, Jeff, Sue, Rich, Walter, Liz, Pete, Chery, Kevin and I braved the temps in the mid teens with a steady breeze from the northeast to tackle the streets of Oakwood. We were joined by Pete Christoff now from Bend, Oregon. Pete is a terrific athlete who in 2009 set his marathon PR at the Newport Marathon in May at 2:46:19!
Jan 31 Group gathered in Yellow Springs for 10-14 mile long run. Luckily the bike path is not covered by snow so the run was pretty predicable. Weather was nice and not too cold with temps in the low 30s.
