FEBRUARY 2010
Feb 1 This morning I ran an easy 3 miles in Conneaut. Felt pretty good. Afternoon ran along lake and ended up doing an easy 6 miles. Weather pretty mild with temps in the low 30s and partly cloudy.
Feb 2 Ran 2 miles this morning in Conneaut. Boy was it cold – 0 degrees. Later in the evening after going to Athletic Annex in Indianapolis I ran 7 miles easy. Weather was cold and a bit windy.
Feb 3 Morning 6 mile run around hotel in Indy. Kinda a breezy but it was not too cold.
Feb 4 3 mile morning run in Conneaut. Turned really cold (about 5 degrees). Later ran 6 miles before driving back to Dayton.
Feb 5 Ran 6 miles with Jeff and Andy on the bike path. It was pouring snow the whole time but since the snow was pretty wet and wearing Yak Tracks made it pretty manageable.
Feb 6 Ran easy 4 miles around neighborhood after the snow stopped. We had more than a foot of snow in past 24 hours. Boy things are a mess but since it the snow was really wet if stuck to everything and the trees are gorgeous.
Feb 7 Raced the Frostbite 5 mile this afternoon. Huge team effort with more than 30 team members participating. Greene Frogs were victorious!!! See Races tab for more story. Weather was cloudy, flurries with temps in low 20s.
Feb 8 Ran 6 miles in Fairborn with Rich this afternoon before drive up to Conneaut. Certainly was tired from racing yesterday. This morning was the coldest day of the year with a low of -6 degrees!
Feb 9 Ran 7 miles around Conneaut this afternoon before it began to snow. Great run.
Feb 10 Ran 7 miles steady in Conneaut this morning. It was snowing pretty hard and was only 12 degrees. With my Yak Tracks it was a great run.
Feb 11 Ran 7 miles around Englewood neighborhood streets. Felt pretty good.
Feb 12 The gang, Andy, Rich, Mindy, Jeff and I gathered at Jeff’s this afternoon for an easy 6-8 mile run. Since there is so much snow we kept the run to local neighborhood streets so it seemed at time that we were running in circles. Today’s weather was pretty calm and cold. Nice afternoon.
Feb 13 Ran 8 miles with Jeff and Rich around Oakwood this morning. It was cold (mid 20s) with a few flurries.
Feb 14 Happy Valentine’s Day. We all gathered at the Heiber’s this morning for a 10 mile run (two loops) around the Rona Hills neighborhood in Fairborn. With temps in the single digits and more than a foot of snow on the ground the group appreciated pretty clear and safe streets.
Feb 15 Met Rich at his house for a easy 6 mile run. Another snow storm dropped 6″ today. What a winter wonderland!
Feb 16 Ran 3 miles easy this morning before leaving for Conneaut. Later that afternoon ran easy 7 miles around Conneaut. Pretty calm weather but there was a little snow.
Feb 17 Easy 7 mile run this morning around Conneaut. Weather was cold (2 degrees) but no wind or snow.
Feb 18 In the afternoon I ran an easy 6 miles around Independence. Not too easy with all the snow and sidewalks blocked. I do love snow but it makes running in cities much more difficult.
Feb 19 Easy 2 mile morning run around hotel in Pittsburgh. Not an easy area to run. Later in the afternoon found a large mall area to run. Ran an easy 7 miles which was great. Weather seemed to break with temps in the low 30s but it was sunny. Felt pretty good!
Feb 20 Back at home I ran an easy 6 mile this afternoon. It was warm with temps in the upper 30s. Spring?
Feb 21 Group met in Yellow Springs this morning for 10 – 16 mile run. Weather has improved greatly in a week as temps were in the low 30s though it did snow lightly.
Feb 22 Met Rich at his home for an easy 8 miles around his neighborhood. Not bad run but the weather was pretty chilly and breezy.
Feb 23 Left Dayton this morning early for Albany, NY. After several delays in Cleveland I arrived in Albany to be greeted by raging snow storm. Though it was snowing a ton I preceded to get an easy 5 mile in which was not too bad.
Feb 24 This morning I ran an easy 4 miles in the pouring snow. Albany received more than 18″ of snow from yesterday through this morning. The roads, however, were not horrible because the temperatures had remained very close to freezing. With my Yack Tracks it was easy. Later in the evening after arriving in Liverpool I ran an easy 3 miles. The weather was great just cloudy and low 30s (no snow to speak of).
Feb 25 Morning run of 4 miles in the pouring snow in Liverpool, NY. The snow storm seems to be following me. Today they had more than a foot of snow. After arriving later this evening in Buffalo I ran 3 miles on a treadmill which was not half bad because I could watch the Winter Olympics.
Feb 26 I am in Buffalo, NY today and it snowed all day. I ended up running twice on the treadmill (before and after teaching) for a total of 7 miles which is a world record for me on the treadmill.
Feb 27 Later in the afternoon ran an easy 6 miles. Though we had snow and wind the previous couple of days things had calmed down tremendously.
Feb 28 Group (Dave, Christina, Rich, Walter and Kevin) gathered in Yellow Springs this morning to run 8 to 16 miles. Dave, Kevin and I didn’t feel the greatest so we only ran an easy 8 miles. Rich and Christina were today’s Runners of the Day as they completed a strong 16 mile effort. They only have 7 weeks until the marathon. February ended up be the 2nd snowiest in Dayton’s history with more than 2 feet this month. All that snow certainly challenged us as runners.
