MARCH 2010
March 1 Arrived in New York for presentation before noon so headed to Central Park. Boy the Park was awash in snow after last week snow event. Ran around the park a couple of times for to total of 9 miles. Nice day with temps in the upper 30s and sunny.
March 2 Morning 3 mile around Flushing, NY. Nice morning run but the sidewalks were a bit icy and snow covered. Later in the afternoon ran 6 miles to Citi Stadium along waterfront bike path. Nice run as it was was partly cloudy and not too cold with temps in the low 40s.
March 3 Ran an easy 7 miles around Englewood this evening. Nice to be home. Felt great.
March 4 Rich joined me for a quick 7 mile run around the Englewood neighborhood streets. Today was the first sunny day in quite awhile. Spring is coming slowly but temps today hit the mid 30s and winds were light.
March 5 Ran steady 6 miler with Jeff and Andy from Jeff’s house in east Dayton. Great evening with sunny skies and temps in the upper 30’s and light winds. Nice run!
March 6 Ran easy 7 miler around Engelwood Dam. Great weather – light winds, sunny with temps in the low 40s.
March 7 Group (Dave, Christina, Rich, Walter, Liz, Kevin and I ) gathered in Yellow Springs this morning for runs of 8 to 16 miles. The weather was terrific all be in a little colder than predicted in the mid 20s but it warmed up throughout the run by the light winds and sunny skies. We all tried running on the bike path which proved nearly impossible as it was covered by 2-6″ of snow/ice. Hopefully one more week of warm weather and it will be totally passable again.
March 8 Ran 8 miles steady with Andy and Jeff this afternoon. Yesterday Andy ran a hard 18 miler and Jeff won the ORRRC Splash and Dash so both were a little tired which was good because then I could keep up with them. What a glorious day. With sunny skies and temps in the mid 50s it was surely a wonderful spring afternoon.
March 9 Ran 8 miles with Jeff, Rich, Mindy and Andy. We ran around Riverside and Beavercreek. Boy was it a beautiful afternoon with temps in the low 60s and sunny.
March 10 Met at Rich’s house. Today we were running my first interval workout for the year. We ran a two mile warm-up and then got into the workout. We ran 1X200, 1X400, 2×800, 2×400 and 2×200. All of the intervals were run under 5:30/mile pace. Felt pretty good and looking forward to next workout. We ended with a 3 mile steady run. Really good day for me.
March 11 Rich was over in the morning and we ran a easy 4 miles around neighborhood. Felt pretty good considering we did intervals day before. Later in afternoon met Jeff in Centerville and ran the Greater Dayton Apartment Association 5K course (plus 2 miles).
March 12 With Jeff’s strong encouragement I entered the Greater Dayton Apartment Association 5K. About 100 runners ran the event. I finished 1st overall with a time of 18:24 which was terrific considering the course I ran was around apartment parking lots and and local neighborhood streets. Plus I had a huge lead so ran with no one the entire way. Won race by more than 2:30. Nice event with great food and drink afterwards. With warm up and cool down ran a total of 9 mile this evening.
March 13 After a busy week of running, I ran a easy 6 miles around the Englewood Dam. Rained the entire way but not too cold with temps in the upper 40s.
March 14 A rather large group (Dave, Christina, Jordan, Rich, Sue, Walter, Liz, Andy, Steven, Alex, Rich C. and I ) of runners gathered in Yellow Springs on a cool, drizzly morning for 8-16 miles. The group going 16 have only 4 weeks until their marathons. Overall pretty good day!

March 16 Ran an easy 3 miles this morning. Boy I was tired but glad to get it done. Later in the afternoon Rich and I ran an easy 6 miles before going to the NCAA play-in game. Weather was great today – sunny and mild with temps in the low 60s. Nice change.
March 17 Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Met at Rich’s house. Today we were running the second interval workout. We ran a two mile warm-up and then got into the workout. We ran 4X 400 and 2X800 alternating distance every other one. We jogged 200-300 meters in between each for less than a 2 minute rest interval. The 400s were run at 80-85 and the 800s at around 2:50. We ended with a 1 mile warm down. Weather was great with sunny, light breeze and temps in the low 60s. Not the best work out for me. Stomach upset. I have got to quit eating McDonald’s at lunch.
March 18 Morning 3 mile run around neighborhood. Later that evening ran my last 6 mile run around Conneaut with Kyle. We ran pretty hard but was comfortable.
March 19 Small group (Tara, Kara, Rich, Jeff and I) met at WPAFB Area B in the afternoon for an easy 5 mile run. Weather was tremendous with temps in the mid 60s under sunny skies.
March 20 Middletown’s St. Patrick’s 5K ran this morning. We had a great team showing with 20 team members racing. The MVTC Greene Frog won again! Weather was partly cloudy and cool with temps in the upper 40s. Great day for a race and victory! See whole race story under Races tab. Oh, yea, Spring started today as well!
March 21 Group (Dave, Christina, Rich, Jeff, and I ) met in Yellow Springs this morning to run 14 – 20 miles. With only three weeks until the marathon everyone seemed to want to run one last long run. Weather nearly prefect with temps in the low 40s, light winds and sun. Everyone had a good day!

Christina and I averaged under 2:50 (with equal rest in between). Rich and Jeff averaged 2:54. We ran a 2 mile cool down. Outstanding effort by everyone. Weather was warm with temps in the mid 60s and sunny. Great workout.
March 25 Met at Jeff’s house for an easy 8 mile run with Jeff and Andy. Felt tired but okay from yesterday’s workout.
March 26 Leaving for San Fran/ Monterey holiday. This morning I ran 4 miles around neighboorhood to make sure I get some running in as we are leaving of San Fran hoiliday trip. Boy was I surprized this morning with more than 4″ of snow. We got clobbered last night and the streets were icy and snow covered to the point that the snow plows were out during my run. Later in Salias I ran 3 miles easy as it was late.
March 27 Morning7 mile run in Salinas. Weather was perfect with temps in the mid 40s and bright sun. I ran around farm country which was nice. A lot of vegetables including cauliflower, artichokes and lettuces is being grown.
March 28 Morning 8 mile run in Salinas. Found bike path which was nice. Weather was perfect again with temps in the mid 40s and bright sun.
March 29 First morning in San Fran. Staying in town so ran to the Gold Gate park and Back. Cool and light rain this morning but it was not bad. City running with all the folks, sidewalks and stoplights/traffic much different than home.
March 30 Easy 7 mile run around town that included the wharf area and, Chinatown and Little Italy areas. Boy San Fran can be hilly at times.
March 31 Easy 7 mile run around wharf area and up to Coit Tower area.
