April 2010

Published by kenn

April 1 Colder and breezier this morning.  Ran steady 8 miles to Fisherman’s Wharf and then around Union Square area.

April 2 Last run in San Fran.  Ran easy 7 miles to AT&T stadium and then across causeway into area known as China Basin.  Looks to be old industrial area that is being transformed into office buildings and urban housing.  Continued back to city where I ran to Fisherman s Wharf and back to hotel.  Nice run.

April 3A small group (Rich, Walter, Christina and I) met at Walter and Liz’s for a Saturday Oakwood run.  It was great seeing the gang again after being gone a week.  We ran a steady 8 miles around Oakwood’s hilly neighborhood streets.  Good run though.

April 4 Met at Rich’s house for easy 8 miles. Rich is running the ORRRC marathon next Sunday so he is in full prep mode.

April 5The group (Rich, Jeff and I) gathered in Beavercreek this afternoon on what turned out to be a rather warm (temps in the upper 70s) day.  Since the guys are tapering for the marathon Sunday we ran 6 miles easy but I added on another 3 miles for a total of 9 miles.  Got great news this afternoon – Dave does not have stress fracture!  He can start training again with group this week.

April 6Rich and met at Fairborn High School to run an easy 6 miles.   The strangest thing while we were running.  My car key fell out of my back running shorts pocket.  So I was determined to find the key and decided to rerun nearly the whole course again (of course never found the key but got in 10 miles or so.)  Weather surprisingly hot for early April with temps in the mid 80s.  Boy how things can change quickly.

April 7Rich, Christina and I met to do one final marathon prep workout – mile repeats at marathon goal pace.  We did a 1 mile warm up and stretched.  The we completed 4x mile on bike path in Beavercreek.  Weather was warm with temps in the mid 70s and very breezy.  Overall we ran a little too fast averaging 6:38 but really easy strong effort.  Rich and Christina feel ready for Sunday’s events.

April 8 Met at Jeff’s to run with Jeff and Rich. We ran an an easy 7 miles.  Weather was much colder with temps in mid 40s.  Boy how things change quickly.   Talked a lot about the marathon.  I think Rich is ready to go!

April 9 Ran 5 miles this morning around Tipp City while Sherri’s car was in the shop.  Nice run but it was cold (37 degrees) and breezy.  Later ran 3 miles at Jeff’s with Andy and Jeff.  Andy is also running marathon Sunday (he will probably win).  He is in terrific condition and should do very well. Jeff is still deciding whether to run the 1/2 or the full marathon.   He should run the 1/2 I think.

April 10 This morning I raced the Strides Against Domestic Violence 5k @Buck Creek State Park, Springfield.  It was a glorious morning with temps in the low 40s at the start and sunny skies.  I ran the course to warm up and warm down.  I ran 18:18 for 2nd place overall (there were more than 500 runners registered).  Nice effort on an awesome morning.

April 11 Today was the  Ohio River Road Runner Club Marathon & Half Marathon.  I wanted to run the final several miles with Rich so I decided to first run the half marathon comfortably with Liz Osborne.  We ran a steady 8:00 minute pace for the first 9 miles before I tuned off and headed up the bike path toward Cedarville.  I ran to the 17 mile mark in the marathon and joined Rich who was struggleing at that point.  Rich really suffered in the warm weather (temps rose to near 70 degrees).  We ran (and walked) the last 9 miles to finish the marathon under 4:00.   For the day I ended up running more than 23 miles (biggest day since early December) but felt really stong today.

April 12 This afternoon I went for semi-long run with Jeff.  We ran 9 miles at 7:20 pace which was faster than I anticipated but felt pretty solid.   Yesterday Jeff ran a super half marathon at 1:24.01 (he negative split the race).

April 13 Track work out in Yellow Springs.  It has been  quite awhile and I have missed it.  Dave was running/coaching jr. high boys so I jumped in with them.  I ran 1×800 (2:42) and then 6×400 (79,77,77,77,76,75) .  Having the boys to run with made it much better effort for me.  Felt strong the whole time and look forward to the next work out.  Dave’s foot seemed to do well.  This is his second day of running.

April 14 This evening I ended up running 8 mile steady in Englewood.  Ran by the Bald Eagle nesting area. Interesting. Warm temps in the upper 70s.

April 15 This morning I ran 3 miles easy.  Boy it was nice with clear skies and temps in the upper 50s.  Later in the afternoon I ran 6 easy miles with Rich.  He is still recovering but doing pretty well.  Oh, today we set a record high of 82 degrees.  Summer is coming too quickly.

April 16 After noon at Jeff’s house.  Jeff, Andy, Brain and I ran 5 miles easy.

April 17 Morning in Bellbrook we all ran the Sugar Maple 5K.  Team had terrific showing with more than 20 runners competing (see races for details).  I ran a three mile warm up and cool down and raced pretty well.  I ran a 18:03 which is a season best for 8th place overall.  The team got nipped by Wright Patt team -4 to -1.  Overall team series standings we are in the lead by 4 points over WPAFB.

April 18 Morning in Yellow Springs several of us ran the rescheduled Little Miami 10 miler.  Weather perfect with temps in the upper 30 and clear skies.  Ran a mile warm up and couple mile cool down.  Raced okay going out in 30:25 but totally ran out of gas second half running 32:59.  Overall it was a good effort.  Dave Johnston was second overall and Christina won the women’s .

April 19 Morning 4 mile run around Woodcliff Hotel.  The hotel sat on top of highest point in the Rochester, NY region.  I ended up running up and down twice mountain twice.  Later in the evening I ran 6 miles around Albany out and back to the airport and Shaker cite.  Nice run.

April 20 Morning 3 mile easy run around northside of Albany.  Later in the afternoon ran in Lake Placid around town and Mirror Lake. Just wonderful.

April 21 Morning7 mile run around Lake Placid and various Olympic venues including ice rinks, outdoor oval, and ski jumping.  Weather clear and cold (28 degrees).   Later in the afternoon ran 4 miles around Burlington, VT and the University.  Felt good and enjoyed the town.

April 22 Morning 3 mile run.  Felt good.  Afternoon 5mile run with Jeff, Rich and Brian light rain and cool.

April 23 Morning  ran 3 miles easy.  Afternoon ran 6 miles with Jeff and Rich.

April 24 Afternoon ran easy 8 miles around the Englewood Dam area while Brandon had BB practice.  Sad note as Sherri’s Grandmother passed after this afternoon. She was 89 years old.

April 25 S Ran with group (Dave, Sue, Rich, Walter, Liz, Kevin and I) in Yellow Springs.  We all ran between 10-14 miles.  Felt pretty tired but okay.

April 26 Morning 5 mile easy run.  Later in the afternoon ran 9 miles steady.  Felt good.

April 27 Morning 3 mile run.  Afternoon run of 8 miles easy as it was windy and cool.

April 28 Morning 9 mile run around Flushing, NY including Citi Stadium, National tennis Center and World’s Fair area.  Nice run but it was very windy and cold.  Winds gusted over 50 mph and temps were in low 40s.

April 29 Morning 4 mile run around north Las Vegas.  Afternoon  7 mile run around Strip area.  Felt pretty good.

April 30 Morning long run of 9 miles around the strip from hotel to Mandalay Bay and back.  Felt really good.
